Notes |
- Apparently the two families were sharing a household in 1860; J. R. Baker was #117 and the Jackson child on next page was also #117. James W Jackson and Jacob Rushing Baker were brothers-in-law.

The following 1880 census is the only 1880 census I've found for James W. that could be the right one but I can't be sure because of the wife's name and difference between their ages. If this is the right one, these children should be listed on an 1870 census; but I can't find any 1870 census for this couple.
1880 Census Dist 121, Precinct 3, Montague Co., Texas
Jackson, James W. W M 48 married farmer TN NC TN
Jackson Annie E. W F 41 wife married keeping house TN TN TN (is indexed as Arissia E.)
Jackson Thadius W M 21 son single farm hand TX TN TN
Jackson Charles A W M 18 son single farm hand TX TN TN
Jackson, Louise W F 12 dau single TX TN TN
Jackson, Melvina M. W F 7 or 6 dau single TX TN TN (the age was marked over and is out of order)
Jackson, Joseph W M 8 son single TX TN TN (or could it be that this is the one out of order?)
Jackson, Allice B. W F 4 dau single TX TN TN
This census is on the same page and within 3 households of John and Ann's son John. Since dau Alice B. is definitely tied to James and Annie by them living with her in the 1900 census; I feel sure this is the right census for James and Annie. Lacking the 1870 census, this also is the only record I've found for Thadius, Charles, Louise, Melvina and Joseph. The inclusion of these children brings the number of children for James and Ann up to 11. On the 1900 census, Ann said she had borne 12 children.

In this 1910 census Ann says she has had 12 children. So there is one that I haven't found yet.
When his sister Catherine and later her husband Jesse Jackson died, James became the guardian of Catherine's children. Jesse had remarried but both Jesse and his second wife died in an epidemic, so James took Catherine's 4 children. But he didn't take the 3 children of Jesse and his second wife.
