      Obituary (Morgan County News, Wartburg, Tenn., Jan. 8, 1998, p. 4-A):

      "Lucy Jean Wilson, 85, Coalfield

      "Lucy Jean Turner Wilson, 85, Coalfield, died Monday evening, Dec. 29, 1997 in the Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. She was formerly Superintendent of Union County Schools, being the first woman to serve in this position. She taught Home Economics at Coalfield School for over 20 years and was an active member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

      "She and her husband, Dr. Ross H. Wilson, were instrumental in establishing the Coalfield Medical Clinic, which bears his name. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

      "She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ross H. Wilson; brother "Bud" Turner; and nephew Bill Turner.

      "She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cherie and Jerry Williams of Knoxville; granddaughter Ashlei Meredyth Stalans of Knoxville; step-granddaughter Margery Williams of Memphis; beloved nieces Betty Jo Hawkins of Powell and Betty Jackson of Coalfield; special great-nephew Lewis Carson of Coalfield; several other special nieces and nephews; and special friends David and Ann Lindsay, Jesse Jackson and her pastor Mac [Mack] Smith.

      "The family received friends Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. The funeral service followed at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. H. Mack Smith, assisted by Rev. Paul Lloyd and Dr. Bill Edmonds. Interment was in the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church."
