      Birthplace: Texas;United States of America
      Birth Date: 26 Dec 1896

(He indicated he did not know the city where his father was born but thought the state was MO.
      Age: 21
signature: Cute EthelBirt Carpenter 5 June 1918

I, Janie, am surmising his middle name was 'made up' at registration for the draft as a middle name was required. I haven't seen even a middle initial for him and though his name was typed at the top of the registration card, he didn't even spell it the same when he signed; he signed Cute Ethel Birt Jackson. LATER: I've seen the photo of his tombstone which has 'C. E. Carpenter'.
