On the 1900 census James still indicated he was born in Virginia while his wife Christiana said she was born in West Virginia. James was probably born in Fauquier County, Virginia.

BAILEY, JAMES R. MEMORIAL: Born Oct. 19, 1813, Baptized Dec. 12, 1835, and ordained to office of Deacon May 7, 1836. Married to Christiana Tharp Feb. 2, 1837. Twelve children, six of whom are still living. He died at his home near Freemansburg Feb. 5, 1901, 87 years 3 months 16 days. Funeral Services at Freemans Creek Baptist Church, interred in Freemansburg cemetery.
