- FORT STEWART, Ga. - Sgt. Nicholas James Jackson, 25, formerly of Lisbon, passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at the Winn Army Hospital.
A devoted husband, loving father, cherished son and proud serviceman, Nick will be sadly missed by his wife, Jessica (Vignon) Jackson; daughter, Kendra Mae Jackson; as well as remaining family members, mother, Terry L. (Ross) Jackson; father, Mark A. Jackson; biological father, Richard Rust; sisters, Kalee, Melinda and Ashley Jackson; maternal grandmother, Kathy Ross of Kearney, Neb.; and grandfather, Robert "Bud" Jackson. Also surviving Nick are aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.
His maternal grandfather, Jerry Ross, and his grandmother, Dorothy Jackson, preceded him in death.
Nick was currently serving his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
He had participated in the initial spearhead of Operation Iraqi Freedom, 1st of the 41st Field Artillery Glory's Gun as a Paladin Gunner 155mm Howitzer and was actively involved in the liberation of Baghdad.
He also proudly served the last two years with the Division Color Guard.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at the Lake Mount Church of Christ, 6290 state Route 7, Rogers, of which Nick was a member. Nick's cousin and youth minister, Brandon McElhaney, will be officiating.
Family will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, while friends may call from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Columbiana Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eells-Leggett Funeral Home, Lisbon.
